Your bedroom is your private oasis to relax and unwind, and should be designed to be a serene, clutter free space. Burlanes were commissioned to design and create bespoke bedroom furniture and storage solutions for the homeowners of this family home in Sevenoaks, Kent.

The key objective of the homeowners' brief was to create lots of concealed storage space, whilst keeping the bedroom streamlined and clutter free. The master bedroom is the width of the house with a window at each end, flooding the room with lots of natural light, which our design team really made the most of. A floor-to-ceiling run of bespoke wardrobes was essential to providing all of the required hanging and shelf space.

In addition to a large cabinet run for hanging clothes, we also designed and created a tall dresser unit for the storage of additional items such as toiletries, bed linen and towels.

Fitted with Burlanes' unique adjustable 'zigzag' shelving, the contents of this tall cabinet are completely customisable with the height of each oak shelf easily altered.

Deciding on the perfect place to position your bed can be a difficult decision, and we would usually advise to try your bed in different areas of your bedroom to decide what works best for you. In this case however, due to the size and dimensions of the room, it seemed natural to position the bed central on the back wall, opposite the run of fitted wardrobes. This also allowed for much more floor space for a bespoke chest of drawers, and bedside tables.

Initially, Mrs Restall, the homeowner, wanted a dressing table beneath the window, but soon realized it would not be something she would use. After a chat with our design team, she opted for a bespoke chest of drawers, made-to-measure to sit just beneath the window sill, which would provide much more storage space. A bespoke oak insert was handmade to sit perfectly within the top drawer, providing dividers for small pieces of jewellery and trinkets.

With a large window at either side of the bedroom, natural light floods the room and the space feels so bright and airy. Mr & Mrs Restall wanted to replicate the natural daylight as much as possible, so opted for spotlights in the ceiling, with natural day light bulbs, and charming pendant lights over each bedside cabinet.

With each cabinet being hand painted in Myland's 'Walpole', it allows light to gently reflect off every surface too!

A handful of lovely handpicked finishings have been applied to this room, sourced by both the Burlanes design team and the homeowners. After being unable to find curtains and upholstery to her taste, Mrs Restall took to making them herself, and what an amazingly unique and beautiful outcome!
