Meet The Team: Jarrett Banks - Burlanes Design Consultant

Jarrett joined the Burlanes design team in February 2018 and is based at Burlanes Chelmsford, alongside Sean. Jarrett has a real design flair, a passion for kitchen design and valued experience in the industry.
Let's meet Jarrett...
Tell us a little bit about yourself...
An inquisitive mind, I find myself always learning something new or occupying myself with something hands on. I enjoy travelling to new cities, cooking and being outdoors. I am a keen skier, and I also like to make an attempt at surfing!
Describe your dream kitchen...
I am a keen cook, so my dream kitchen has to be geared towards this, with lots of space to prep and everything easily accessible! I would love a freestanding island purely for prep - a stainless steel worktop with everything at hand underneath. Aesthetically, I would like an industrial style kitchen combined with some traditional elements. A place to sit is also a must have in my dream kitchen; whether it be to eat breakfast in the morning or to simply socialise whilst cooking.
Tell us a little bit about your career. How has it unfolded?
I started out at university studying History, where postgraduate life saw me travel France and Italy working in the Alps as a Chalet Host, and a number of odd renovation jobs in the likes of Lake Garda and Bordeaux. Coming back to the UK, I realised my interests lie within the realm of design and having a hands on approach to working, and so I decided to pursue this part-time education in Architecture. Accompanying this, I have been designing kitchens for the past 18 months, putting my design ideas into practise.
What do you think makes a 'happy home'?
An open door policy, where anyone is freely invited, is what really makes a happy home. I also think lots of places to sit and gather are important, whether it be at a table, a breakfast bar or quite simply in a nice armchair. Different places for different times of day and circumstances to sit and simply chat.
Name a kitchen gadget that you couldn't live without!
A coffee machine! Whatever shape or size I cannot start my day without my caffeine fix in the morning, or a top up in the afternoon as well!
What would people be most surprised to know about you?
I once drove the Monaco Grand Prix track; even if it was in my Nissan Micra at the time! I also own two siamese cats named Monkey and Leon.
