At Burlanes, we are proud to be a small, close-knit, friendly team, and we think it is very important that our website, our showrooms and our company's ethos reflect that. Burlanes has expanded rapidly in the past 12 months, and Lucy has joined our team and oversees all Marketing elements of the business. Lucy is responsible for our Social Media channels, management of the website, organising events, Burlanes' promotional materials, brochures etc.
Let's meet Lucy...
Tell us a little bit about yourself...
I was born in Germany, and I spent most of my childhood years living in Cyprus. I moved to England in 2001, and have lived in Kent ever since. My family are from Leeds in Yorkshire however, so I spent quite a lot of time up North too!
How long have you been working for Burlanes?
My role at Burlanes began in March 2017, so I've been with the company for 4 months now.
Describe your dream kitchen...
Growing up, the kitchen was always the heart of my family home, and I consider it as one of the most important rooms in a house; so much time is spent in the family kitchen, so it is definitely a room to invest in! I really like cool grey tones at the moment, combined with minimalistic design and well designed storage solutions. I do not like a cluttered kitchen, and like to have a home for everything in my house. I like traditional style, with a contemporary twist, so first on my kitchen wishlist would be a really, really big free-standing larder, with pull out vegetable drawers and baskets. An island would be lovely too, with a Butler sink beneath a big window, and of course an AGA.
Tell us a little bit about your career. How has it unfolded?
I graduated from University in 2014, with a degree in Fashion Design. I began my career in the fashion industry interning for high street retail Press Offices, before landing myself a job at a fashion PR company just in time for London Fashion Week! I loved the 'hustle & bustle' of London life and the fashion industry, but over the past few years my passion for interiors and my own house has grown, and I have been lucky enough to combine this with my passion for marketing, at Burlanes.
What do you think makes a 'happy home'?
A home is only as happy as those who live there, so happy people is a good place to start! A lovely big kitchen is also great for families to come together. I love a big dining table too, I think family meal times are really important to communicate, and chat about your day.
Name a kitchen gadget that you couldn't live without!
At home, it is definitely my kettle! I drink endless cups of tea a day; a good cup of tea helps in any situation! In the office, we have a Quooker boiling-water tap, which is definitely on my kitchen wishlist!
What would people be most surprised to know about you?
In my 25 years of being alive, I have actually lived in 14 houses! I have done lots of travelling, and been lucky enough to live in and visit over 20 countries worldwide.
