Curves in the Wellsdown kitchen project in Sevenoaks

Burlanes bespoke Wellsdown kitchen with curved island

Traditionally, kitchen cabinets have always been angular and square, however in recent years, curves in the kitchen have become a more desired design, for both aesthetics and as a space saving technique.

The Wellsdown project in Sevenoaks was designed with a curved kitchen island to allow for a better flow around the room.

Traditionally a room to prepare food and cook meals, the kitchen has come a far cry from its origins, and is now a space that takes careful time and consideration to create a bespoke design that is truly unique to you and your home. The owners of the Sevenoaks kitchen wanted to create an open plan kitchen-diner, a place to gather and bring the family together; the heart of the family home.

Our Sevenoaks design team put together a number of layouts to present to the owners; despite wanting an island, they were unsure as to whether the design would work with the dimensions of the room. A curved kitchen island was the perfect solution to provide additional worktop and storage space without looking bulky or overpowering in the room.

Careful consideration of storage was essential when designing this kitchen. Integrated appliances in the corner solution made use of an otherwise discarded space, and deep drawers either side of the cooktop meant pots and pans were within easy reach when required.

With the main run of the kitchen providing the majority of the storage space, the island is the home to the integrated appliances, including the rubbish and recycling bins.

An additional sink in the island is a great addition to any kitchen. Often used as a prep sink for making drinks and cleaning and preparing vegetables, it can also be used as an ice bucket when entertaining too.

A bespoke run of floor-to-ceiling cabinetry fills the back wall of the dining room, providing additional storage space for crockery and dinnerware.

A bespoke radiator cover was integrated within the design, with a removable front panel for access and maintenance if required.

Our design team are more than just designers, they are problem solvers and they are amazing at what they do. They know that no two homes are the same, so no two kitchens should be either. Absolutely anything is possible with a Burlanes kitchen; our furniture is totally bespoke, there are no set sizes, standards or colours and every project we work on is designed, handmade and installed with passion, common sense, and without compromise.
